How will I find you?

 You’re the inescapable storm

Of heart-breaking firsts

And the relentless loss

Of a thousand sweet souls

As more mothers mourn

And the world rages on

But then what?

When time flows along

And the sun shines anew

When peacetime returns

And your sharp edges blur

When your story grows old

And you remain young

How will I find you

Without anger and fear

Without grief and despair

To signal the way?

I’d rather hold you in pain

Than lose you to joy

And then I hear

Mom, there’s no path to follow

But I won’t let you lose me

I’m walking beside you

So let the pain breathe

And make room for more joy
